Came across this video of 'Single Transferable Vote' system while grazing the tube and it makes a lot of sense to me. It talks of a different approach to elections where the voters give their top three preference of the candidates instead of picking a single best one.
This allows more people to have their preferred candidate elected, and is an inherently fair system when it comes to minority representation.
The YouTube channel has a few other videos on the topic as well.
