Anti Superstition Legislation

Sid brought this up on facebook and I did a bit of reading up on it. I was pleasantly surprised at first and then a bit disappointed. The only place I could find the full draft of the bill was on Hindujagruti.com !

http://www.hindujagruti.org/activities/c...draft1.php

I'm not sure if this qualifies for irony. However I found the following dissection by a law student much more readable.

http://www.legalserviceindia.com/articles/statl.htm

This was the cause of disappointment as, as the author points out, the original draft was modified to make for a more apologetic language.

I could not find out what the current status of the bill is. The last news is that the bill Passed Maharashtra legislation and is awaiting Central Government approval. Anyone knows what happened after that?

Bala, it seems to be status quo - awaiting Central Govt. clearance since 2006.
What can one expect from a govt. that calls astrology a science?
Astrology is an ancient 'science' and it cannot be banned, the Union Government has said in an affidavit filed in the Bombay High Court here.

I must clarify that in principle I'm against banning anything. I object to astrology being called a 'science'.

This was a pleasant surprise to find out about this bill. Someone mentioned it under a thread on the Indian Atheists page. He seemed like he knew more about this. Maybe we should get him here to tell us more.

I do not think that this bill can be passed at all. From the congress to Shiv Sena and BJP, they are all in the pockets of the likes of Sai Baba.
