Introduction to Humanism
#1
As per the 1996 Declaration made by an International Team of Humanists, in a General Assembly of the International Humanist and Ethical Union-IHEU:

"Humanism is
- a democratic and ethical life stance,
- which affirms that human beings have the right and responsibility to give meaning and shape to their own lives.
- It stands for the building of a more humane society through an ethic based on human and other natural values in the spirit of reason and free inquiry through human capabilities.
- It is not theistic, and it does not accept supernatural views of reality."

Humanism is a positive life-stance and clearly states what we stand for.

As opposed to "Atheism" which basically addresses that which we do not stand for.

Humanism in India has long history (although bruised and sidelined by the Anti-Humanists) which can be traced back to the times of the Buddha (if not before).
Human development Index in India was probably the highest in the world during the period from the 500BCE to about 500CE then continuing weakly till about 1000CE.

Let us all strive towards restoring the glory of Humanist India.

I have started a web-site to share the information about the various organizations and people engaged in Humanist activity in India.

I've been reading elsewhere about the humanistic rationalism of the Buddha. Isn't it ironic that those qualities are not what he is most remember for by most people today?
