Marathas and Hinduism
#1
Marathas looted the Shringeri Math of Shankaracharya. The Shankaracharya sought help of Tipu Sultan against the Marathas. The Marathas are considered restorers of Hinduism. It is interesting to note that Bajirao sought permission from the Mughal Emperor to collect taxes from Malwa. The Mughal Emperor refused as a result Bajirao attacked Malwa.
The Marathas were more interested in economic prosperity than Hindu revival.
