The Sun Oozes Awesomeness

A few weeks back the Solar Dynamics Observatory was launched and it has been taking some beautiful pictures of the Sun. Here is a solar eruption that it caught in action:

This is awesome. I'd actually already seen it on the day it was released. Shobhit sent out a notice on facebook. Nice idea to post it here. I think we will be getting more updates from the SDO in the days to come, and we can add those images and clips here.

SDO captures a Coronal Mass Ejection.

That is one of the scariest things I've ever seen. And supposedly it is not a big eruption. Wonder what a big one would look like. :shudder:

A Solar Prominence

SDO caught a massive solar Prominence:
