Unnatural attitude towards Sex and Violence
#1
We Indians have a strange attitude towards Sex/Nudity and Violence!

We take it as an offence when there’s Sex or Nudity (or even semi-Nudity) portrayed in the media and films, even without being explicit. We shout “vulgar”…”vulgar”…”obscene”…”obscene”! We also invoke the parrot-cry of Indian Culture to justify our moral outrage. A film containing Sex or Nudity will automatically get an “A” certificate.

Now take a look at our reaction towards Violence (brutal ones, that is) portrayed in the media and films. We simply accept it as it is - without even a murmur of protest. There’s no moral outrage! No screamings of “vulgar”…”vulgar”! No invoking the weapon of Indian Culture against it! No “A” certificate for films depicting brutal Violence. No nothing! Why?

This exposes an extremely UNNATURAL state of mind!

Sex is after all a pleasure-giving activity and Violence a pain-giving one!

The Indian mind is basically dictated not by logic and reason – but by prejudices and false thinkings and “mental blocks”! Funnily, traditionalists think they are being very pure with their conservative and prudish thinking. The truth is just the opposite – their minds are impure and POLLUTED with irrational moralities and values!

The very fact that they are shy of and offended by Sex/Nudity, but tolerate Violence in films is explicit proof that they have impure and also “contorted” brains!

They find vulgarity in everything Sex, Nudity and dresses worn by females. Little do they realize that it’s their brains that are “vulgar” and not the targets of their (false) moral outrage!

Why just in India such UNNATURAL state of mind exists in most Asian societies. Even in the West Sexual innuendos (showing the middle finger) are generally considered indecent – but Violence-oriented innuendos (like slitting of the throat indication with the finger) are never considered so!

What could be the reason (s) behind this double-standard attitude towards Sex & Violence? Is there any historical basis for this?

A question running in my mind for a long time. What makes display of violence okay but that of sex unacceptable in a culture of a society? It seems like humans have evolved to accept violence, not sex. Thanks for bringing it up.
